Will Smith and wife Jada make first red carpet appearance post Oscars slap controversy

It’s been almost a month since the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith and wife Jada is finally makes his
first red carpet appearance since the awards show. Smith’s attendance comes after he caused quite
a stir at the Oscars when he slapped comedian Chris Rock. The incident occurred during a bit where
Rock was trying to get celebrities to take photos with a fake reporter. When Rock approached Smith,
the actor cracked him across the face with an open palm.
Smith has stayed mum on the incident since it occurred, but he did break his silence to address the
controversy surrounding his wife Jada’s boycott of the Oscars. In an interview with Good Morning
America, Jada said that she was boycotting the awards show because of its lack of diversity. “We’re
part of this community but at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is
OK,” she said.
Will supported his wife’s decision to boycott the Oscars, but he also said that he would be attending
the awards show because he was nominated for Best Actor. “I’m excited,” he told Good Morning
America. “I’m going to be there.” However, it seems that Will had a change of heart after meeting
with Rock backstage at the Oscars. “Chris and I had a conversation backstage and what I realized is
that I can’t activist all day but I got to be me,” he said in an interview with The Associated Press.
“And you know, when you look at our success rate as activists, as celebrities, not very good.”
So it looks like Will Smith has finally emerged from hibernation and made his first red carpet
appearance since the Oscars. It will be interesting to see if he addresses the incident with Chris Rock
