The Story of Elton John and David Furnish

Elton John and David Furnish have been together since 1993, but only officially tied the knot in 2014.
The couple has two sons together, Zachary and Elijah, who were born via surrogate in 2010. In this

Getting to Know Each Other

Elton and David first met at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 1993 — something that was documented
on Elton’s Instagram page in 2018. At the time, Elton was still struggling with his sexuality after
divorcing his wife Renate Blauel in 1988. As he explained in an interview with CBS News’ Gayle King,
it took him years to fully accept himself as a gay man. Fortunately for him, he had someone who was
willing to help him through the process — David Furnish.

The pair was instantly attracted to each other, with David later telling HuffPost Live that it was “love
at first sight” for them both. After only a few months of dating, Elton asked David to move into his
London home — a place that would soon become their family’s permanent residence.

In 2005, after more than a decade of being together, Elton and David decided to become civil
partners — something which gave them many of the same rights as married couples at the time. Five
years later, they welcomed their two sons into the world via surrogate mother — something that
was documented on MTV in 2012’s special “Our Journey”. Though they had already committed
themselves to one another years ago, they finally tied the knot on December 21st 2014 after same-
sex marriage became legal in England & Wales back in 2013.

Nowadays, Elton John and David Furnish are living happily ever after as a married couple with two
sons who adore them both beyond measure. It’s been quite a journey for them both! They have
come out of some difficult times together but remain strong as ever — proving that true love really
